Yoga Instructor
Jo has been practising yoga for more than two decades, but what initially attracted her to yoga isn’t quite what keeps her coming back today. When she first began practising, Jo was captivated by the physical challenge – she wanted to become stronger and more flexible.
With time, her practice became about much more than what she could achieve physically. Jo began to discover the transformative potential of pranayama, meditation and the philosophy that sits behind the postures. Yoga became something she could take beyond the mat and incorporate into everyday life.
It is this breadth that Jo loves most about yoga. Depending on what she needs, a practice can leave her feeling energised and empowered, or calm and grounded. She has also found yoga particularly valuable when dealing with periods of stress and anxiety, providing practical ways to settle both mind and body.
Jo undertook her yoga teacher training a couple of years ago, initially to deepen her own knowledge and understanding. But sharing her passion for yoga soon became an equally important part of her journey. She believes yoga should be something everyone can enjoy, and her classes are designed to be welcoming and accessible, with options to modify and adapt the practice to suit different abilities and experience levels.
Having attended yoga classes at the Fitness Garage herself, Jo is now bringing this approach to her own Hatha Yoga class, Wednesdays, 7–8pm.
What is Hatha Yoga?
Expect a slower-paced, considered practice, with time to explore alignment and refine each posture rather than moving quickly between poses. Sessions will include breathwork, a gentle warm-up, asana practice, and time to wind down with relaxation or meditation.
Whether completely new to yoga or already an experienced practitioner, everyone is welcome. And to help you get started, Jo is offering the first class at half price.
